On 26th March, Stage 2 participated in an incursion as part of their HSIE unit ‘Community and Remembrance'. They were visited by Linda Hambley-The Aboriginal Education and Engagement Officer and Aunty Carol the DEC ACLO.
The focus of the visit was for the children to develop a deeper understanding of Aboriginal culture and in particular the original inhabitants of our community. The visit also looked at the purpose of the Acknowledgement of Country as a protocol that Aboriginal people followed when crossing land belonging to other tribes.
Our school leaders later sat with our visitors who helped them write their own Acknowledgement of Country.
Overall, the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the highlight being singing with Aunty Carol and looking at the Aboriginal artefacts.
