Anzac Assembly
12 May 2026
This year on Thursday the 23rd of April, Mortlake Public School hosted an Anzac Day Assembly to honour all Australians and New Zealanders who have served and sacrificed in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
SRC representatives from each class presented wreaths under the Australian flag and Zoe and Anna shared heartfelt stories about their ancestors who played important roles for our country. It was a meaningful and respectful way to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of those who served our country.
We were also incredibly proud and honoured to have our students represent our school community across two local Anzac Day services: the City of Canada Bay Council Service, and the Breakfast Point Dawn Service.
Our school leaders stood with poise and respect as they laid wreaths on behalf of all students and staff, honouring the courage and sacrifice of those who served. A special mention to our school choir, whose beautiful performance at Breakfast Point added a moving tribute to the morning’s commemorations.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Zoe and Anna, who spoke so eloquently about the enduring significance of Anzac Day. In 2026, their words reminded us that the Anzac spirit, courage, mateship, and resilience, remains a vital part of our identity as a school and a nation.
A sincere thank you to Ms Krestovsky, Ms Wilson, Ms Petrino, and Mr Karikios for their dedication in supporting our students and fostering such deep respect for this tradition.
As part of the NSW Department of Education, we are committed to ensuring the legacy of our veterans lives on through the voices of our young leaders.
At Mortlake Public School, we believe every child has unique strengths, whether creative, intellectual, physical or social-emotional.
