Preschool visits

This year, Mortlake Public School local preschool visits have continued with the guidance of our wonderful librarian Ms Didonato.

We look forward to these visits which give the children a sense of belonging and set them up for when they enter Kindergarten.

Mrs Didonato has kindly answered some questions about these visits.

How often do you have these visits?

We have preschool visits regularly throughout the term. I work with three different preschool groups who come to our school for story time and related learning activities. Each preschool visits twice a term.

What preschools come?

The three preschools that we currently welcome from our community are Little Genius, Explore and Develop Preschool and Adams Lane. The visits help the children become familiar with the school environment and build connections before they start Kindergarten.

What do you do when they visit?

During each visit, we read and explore a picture book together and complete a hands-on activity linked to the story. The sessions are designed to be fun, engaging, and age appropriate.

What do you like most about them?

I enjoy seeing the children’s excitement and curiosity when they visit the school. It is wonderful watching their confidence grow each week and seeing them begin to feel comfortable and connected in the school environment. I also love hearing their creative ideas and responses to the stories we share.

Are there any challenges?

One challenge can be planning activities that suit a range of ages, confidence levels, and attention spans. However, it is very rewarding finding ways to keep all children engaged and included.
