Student Representative Council (SRC)

03 Sep 2025

At Mortlake, student voice means more than being heard, it’s about empowering students to shape learning and influence school decisions. Our Student Representative Council turning ideas into action.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a group of students from K-6 who are selected by their peers to represent their class. Every week at the first half of lunch  on Wednesday they meet in the library, under the supervision of Mrs Petrino and Mrs Karikios and discuss ways they can improve the school, brainstorm and vote songs for a new school bell for example and organise upcoming events.

To do this they separate into different groups, run by school leaders - sports and wellbeing leaders, community and connections leaders, performing arts leaders, library leaders, technology leaders and environmental leaders. Each group takes turns organising these events, and make posters to inform the students.

Some of the events that have been organised so far include mufti days, pyjama day, the food drive and much more. For our food drive we donated 300 kilograms of food and supplies to Food Bank, and students also donated a gold coin for our mufti and pyjama day. SRC also sold donuts for $3 at the Open day, as we are raising money for a native garden. SRC also organizes No Trash Tuesday, a day where all bins are taken away, and students are encouraged to bring in food that has no packaging to reduce the amount of rubbish going to the landfill.

Upcoming is our SRC book sale in week 7 where we will raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, where students donate any books and the SRC resell all of them for $2.

We all absolutely love the responsibility that being an SRC member brings and seeing the difference we can make to the school!
