Mortlake Public School have two operational choirs. The Junior Choir comprises approximately 60 interested students from years 1 and 2 while the 50-voice Senior Choir comprises children in years 3 to 6. Neither choir is audition-based, as we wish to encourage as many children as possible to experience the delights of choral singing.
The Junior Choir currently rehearses at second half of lunchtime each Thursday, under the direction of Mrs Cartledge and Miss Andreolas. The Senior Choir currently rehearses before school each Tuesday morning from 8.30-9.20am. It is conducted by Mrs Lydia Burjan, a parent of the school, and is funded by the members of the choir on a term-fee basis.
Both choirs perform at most school events such as Education Week, the end of year Christmas celebration, the Presentation Day ceremony, a number of community based concerts (including Senior Citizens Week) and in recent years, Mortlake has been successful in sending senior students to the Opera House to take part in a 600 voice massed choir featured in "Our Spectacular".
